Ode to Mystique

To be or not to be we ponder
the means as we pass
one another like ships
on the open sea

Readying cargo
Choosing routes
Signing contracts
Heading north, swinging south

All in a day’s work without
a complaint we want to believe
forever looking back
Dazed as in a fading dream

Who is to know the slights and
misfortunes we silently suffer
Monstrous thoughts that bring on
the turbulence without a buffer

And yet, we sail on full of hope and
vitality flying our sails high
In search of our mystique—
our one and only dream

Life seemed so promising just a
moment ago now looms above
Unfair, Complicated, Difficult
“Where to!?” the captain demands

Can there be other potential
Other possibilities stowed
below the deck while we ponder
Shaking our quizzical head

If life was meant to be lived
to the fullest reaching our
goals attaining the dream
the question begs to be answered:

“What are we doing here?”

The Life Force is an Intricate Affair

The life force is an intricate affair. You have the positive beneficial flow and then you have the adverse turn of the current where obstacles arise, suffering mounts and confusion smokes our screen as we draw on the worst of our response. And yet, there’s a kind of “correcting” to this pulsation of energy as it twists and turns in its eternal flow. If we suspend our rational judgment of how things currently stand and how they should be, we have a shot at correcting our own life force by looking within—at the mechanics of the Source, its drive and movement. This takes concentrated effort which— like a wave, can be renewed in each moment.

One-pointed focus in meditation is not even or continuously sustained but renewed many times during our sitting practice. But it is these small waves of concentrated focus and resilience that go into building bigger and bigger waves that can take us behind the scenes where we get a juicy glimpse into the Great Mystery of it all. This in turn propels our movement into new places of bliss and challenge as the forces move us deeper into the Great Ocean of life. Always and forever, it is a confluence of the two—the Great Mystery working in union with the entirety of our being—our intelligence, our heart and our spiritual essence.

Part of our collective purpose on this planet is to awaken to our service to this Great Source which finds its home in all forms and expression of life—atmospheric, mineral, plant, and animal—of which we are an integral part of. And as the Great Mystery unfolds itself through one of its numerous forces, if we are open and surrendered enough it cannot avoid but to touch us—even electrify our being at its very core!

The Sleeping Poet

There
inside
a flicker
a moment
a place
untraveled
barely touched
fearing each breath
battling emotion
Birth
Death

You come
into this world
a morning glory
climbing hills
ascending mountains
your delicate center
open to the world
touched by light
too soon extinguished
with the return
of the Night.
